The Oman Down Syndrome Association (ODSA) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of its members, beneficiaries, donors, volunteers, and website visitors. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal data in accordance with the Oman Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL).
1. Data Collection
We may collect the following types of personal data:
- Personal Identification Information: Name, date of birth, nationality, civil number, and contact details.
- Health and Educational Information: Details pertinent to the services we provide, especially for children with Down syndrome.
- Guardian Information: For minors, we collect guardian names and contact information.
- Donation Details: Information related to donations, including transaction details and donor contact information.
- Website Usage Data: Information collected through cookies and similar technologies to enhance user experience.
2. Legal Basis for Processing
We process personal data based on explicit written consent obtained from the data subject or their legal guardian, as required by Article 10 of the PDPL. Consent is obtained through clear and understandable forms and can be withdrawn at any time.
3. Purpose of Data Processing
Personal data is processed for the following purposes:
- Service Provision: To deliver educational, therapeutic, and support services to individuals with Down syndrome.
- Communication: To inform members and stakeholders about our programs, events, and updates.
- Donor Management: To process donations and provide acknowledgments.
- Compliance: To fulfill legal obligations and regulatory requirements.
4. Data Subject Rights
Under the PDPL, you have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Rectification: Request correction or updating of your data.
- Erasure: Request deletion of your data when it’s no longer necessary for the purposes collected.
- Objection: Object to certain types of data processing.
- Data Portability: Request transfer of your data to another controller.
- Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) if you believe your data rights have been violated.
Requests will be addressed within 45 days, free of charge, unless they are unfounded or excessive.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes secure storage systems, access controls, and staff training.
6. Data Sharing and Transfers
We do not share personal data with third parties except:
- With explicit consent from the data subject or their guardian.
- When required by law or regulatory authorities.
- With service providers who assist in our operations, under strict confidentiality agreements.
Personal data is not transferred outside Oman unless necessary and with appropriate safeguards in place, in compliance with PDPL requirements.
7. Data Retention
Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law. Once data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymized.
8. Children’s Data
For individuals under the age of 18, we obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian before collecting or processing personal data. Processing is conducted in the best interest of the child, following the PDPL and its Executive Regulations.
9. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the MTCIT within 72 hours and affected individuals without undue delay, as stipulated by the PDPL.
